Privacy Policy

Your privacy matters to us.  We recognize, respect, and protect the personal information you provide to us.  This site is a public service and the following is the privacy policy for this site.

We realize that visitors to our site entrust us and may provide personal information and it is our policy to maintain that information in a confidential manner.  Because your visit to the Central Tax Bureau of Pennsylvania, Inc. (Centax) Web site is important to us, we do not capture personal information about you without your permission.  We collect only a minimal amount of information needed to fulfill the purpose of this Web site.

Records received by the Centax Web site are subject to the same controls, public disclosure, and uses as records collected by our office when visited in person.  Centax does not sell, rent, or otherwise improperly disclose information it receives.

Log analysis tools are used to create summary statistics used for administering the performance of this Web site.  The information we collect is used to help us make our site more useful to visitors.  We study these Web site usage reports to determine what information is of the most or least interest to visitors, and to identify system performance or problems.  The information in the Web site usage report is not personally identifiable nor do we attempt to link it with any individual that visits our Web site.

Personally Identifiable Information

"Personally identifiable information" is information about a person that is readily identifiable to that specific individual.  It includes, for example, an individual’s name, street address, e-mail address, or telephone number.  Citizens do not have to routinely provide personally identifiable information to visit this Web site or to download information.  Any personal information you provide to Centax will be used only for tax administration purposes.  Centax stores personal information in a secure location where it is accessible only to authorized employees and agents of Centax.

We will not collect any personally identifiable information about you through our Web site unless you voluntarily use our site to send us an e-mail message, to request tax forms or to file a tax return.

Information provided in the course of completing and electronically filing a tax return will be treated in the same manner as information provided when filing a paper tax return. Employees and agents of Centax are prohibited by law from willfully inspecting information contained on any tax return for any purpose other than the conduct of official duties, and from disclosing any kind of tax information to anyone except in a limited number of very specific circumstances that are described in the law.

E-mail messages sent to Centax will be treated in the same way as any other kind of written communication having a similar content, and, because of record retention requirements, that e-mail message may be saved for a period before being destroyed.  Your e-mail may also be preserved so that we can more efficiently handle any follow-up.  E‑mail messages that do not constitute tax information are subject to public inspection and legal discovery.  Your e-mail message and address may be forwarded to another agency of Pennsylvania state government for response or other action if appropriate.  If you choose to send an e-mail to Centax containing personally-identifying information, you need to know that such communications are not secure and, in theory, could be viewed by anyone with access to the Internet.  If you prefer to not use e-mail, you can contact us by postal mail or telephone listed at http://www.centaxgroup.com/Locations.aspx.

In order to better serve you, the user, we may use "cookies" for certain types of online transactions.

Cookies are small text files that a Web server may ask your Web browser (such as Microsoft Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) to store on your hard disk, and then to send back to the Web server when needed.  Cookies are not capable of doing anything to your hard drive.  In fact, you can easily delete cookies from your hard drive.  Cookies simply contain information about you and your preferences and merely tell a Web site that a previous visitor has returned – they do not reveal anything personal.  For instance, items placed in a "shopping cart" might need to be displayed on a later "check-out" screen; if you inquire about a flight schedule on an airline’s Web site, the site might create a cookie that contains your itinerary; or a cookie might only contain a record of which pages you visited within a Web site.  Only the information you provide or the choices you make while visiting a Web site can be stored in a cookie.  For example, the site cannot determine your e-mail name, address, or phone number unless you choose to type it.  Allowing a Web site to create a cookie does not give that or any other site access to the rest of your computer and only the site that created the cookie can read it.

Our Internet filing applications use cookies to keep your tax return information separate from that of other taxpayers who may be filing a return at the same time.  When we use cookies in this way, the cookie is stored on our server and then destroyed at the end of the transaction.  We do not use cookies to track your visits to our Web site.

If revealing personal information has you worried, you can find out whenever a cookie is being placed on your system by activating a Cookie Alert.  The "Help" portion of the toolbar on most browsers will tell you how to prevent your browser from accepting new cookies or how to disable cookies altogether.  You may not be able to use portions of the Centax Internet filing unless your browser is set to allow cookies, and we recommend that you leave them turned on.

Disclaimer of Liability - Neither Centax nor any of its officers or employees warrants the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of any information published on the Centax Web site, nor shall they be held liable for any losses caused by reliance on the accuracy, reliability or timeliness of such information.  Portions of the information may be incorrect or not current.  Any person or entity that relies on any information obtained from this site does so at his or her own risk.

Disclaimer of Endorsement - The Centax Web site contains links to other Web sites that are not owned, operated, controlled, or reviewed by Centax.  This Privacy Statement does not apply to other Web sites that are linked to the Centax Web site.
